Microphone Tecnique and Microphone Abuse

I have seen the SM58 drenched in spit and sweat. Dropped and kicked, thrown into a crowd and then hurled back at the singer. I have seen the microphone rained on and dropped in puddles put back on the microphone stand and make it through the performance. All in all The Shure SM58 can handle any live situation it may encounter.

The Shure SM58: The go to microphone

In a past life when I  was a Monitor Engineer, the microphone box was always filled with plenty of choices on the festival stage.  When faced having to spend a day with eight to 13 different bands and artists, my choice of microphone was always the Shure SM58.

Now understand I am not a technical kind of guy in any way. All I know is when I pull out a SM58 from a microphone box and put in front of any decent floor wedge I know I'm going to get a sound that I can work with. I also know from experience that as stage conditions change I can count on the SM58 perform well even in extreme heat and humidity.
